Impact of Peer Group on Civic Responsibility among Students in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State

This study investigates the impact of peer group on civic responsibility among students in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. Civic responsibility among youths is crucial for sustainable development and democratic growth. However, peer group influence has been identified as a key factor shaping students’ civic attitudes and behaviors. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The target population comprised all senior secondary school students in public and private schools within the area, totaling approximately 6,500 students. While a sample of 200 senior secondary school students was selected using stratified random sampling across public and private schools. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed a significant relationship between peer group influence and students’ civic responsibility. Recommendations were made for schools, parents, and policymakers to promote positive peer interaction to enhance students’ civic consciousness.Downloads
